Kubus is the second escape room we have played in the company of Locked Ghent. We were so excited to play this one after an amazing first experience. Going in with high expectations can sometimes damage your game impression, however we were not at all deceived by this game. It even surpassed our expectations I could say.
The reception: While you won’t find here the standard reception of an escape room operator, we can’t say we were in any way let down by Locked Ghent upon our arrival. Just so you understand, the escape rooms are located at the owner’s house and they have been built in his garage. It was a bit difficult to find them in the beginning, but they made the process easier in the meantime. While there are buses that go in that area, we recommend taking a walk or a bike, as the city is beautiful and you might spot a nice scenery.
The story: There’s not much of a story to this particular escape room. Mainly, you are locked inside a room in a group of strictly 4 people, in a 2 and a half hours game!!! You are all stuck inside a 3D puzzle and you constantly have to free each other, so make sure you go in teams of people you can really work with.
The Design: The design of Kubus is again very basic in terms of decorations, however really amazing in terms of concept. I can’t give away too much of it, however it involves something you wouldn’t really imagine you would do in a real life escape room – and it’s really great. The structure of the game allows you to sometimes work with your team mates, and some other times trying to set them free.
The Puzzles: If you’re a fan of physical puzzles and teamwork, this is a game for you! Every step of the game you are forced to rely on help from the other players and you must all contribute to a successful completion of the mission. Communication is key as the puzzles are quite diverse and almost all of them require more than one person to be solved. Unlike their first game, this one involves some technology and new elements.
The Game Master: The game master in our case is the owner of the concept and also the mastermind behind the entire thing. The way this person conceives a game is simply amazing. He’s very passionate about escape rooms, always open to feedback of any kind for his games, and always ready to help you take the mission to the end.
