Prohibition brings a new concept to the escape rooms market in Bucharest, Romania, as it offers the possibility to play with a live performance and thus, our ratings and review are for this version of the game.
Reception: The Codex are very close to ‘Hala Traian’, and they have a big banner on the building, that serves both as marketing and as a way to let you know they are there. There are no subway stations nearby, however there are plenty of ways to get here by other means of public transportation. This particular game benefits from a primary room for the briefing and a secondary room for post-game discussions.
The story of ‘Prohibition’: You and your team head out on an adventure back in the roaring 20s, on a mission to infiltrate Al Capone’s gang. To succeed in the capital of the Mafia, you’ll have to look like them, act like them and think like them. 😉
Design: You can tell from the first few minutes into the game that you’re probably going to like the decorations in this escape room. The game is designed to get you hooked to the story behind it. Even before starting the game, the game master lets you know there is no record and the time you take to escape is in no way relevant, just so they once more suggest you to focus on the story/mission and not on competitive aspects of the game. Even though offering a live performance in an escape room can be tricky, they manage to do it successfully, granting a good level of authenticity to the mission. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, this version of the game has an actor playing an important role in solving the puzzles and advancing.
Puzzles: While the level of difficulty in this escape room is not very high, even the most competitive amongst you will enjoy Prohibition. All puzzles are very well integrated into the era and they go along very well with the live performance they’ve created. This makes the game equally suited for beginners or more experienced escapers. You’ll find here both classical elements and some mechanisms.
Game Master: During our game, the game masters were the owners of the concept – Kat and Sergiu. We had an excellent experience also because of them, as they are very good in terms of interaction with the clients, and you can tell from the start they’ve put a lot of passion in creating this game. As they are escape room fanatics as well, they can correctly evaluate the necessity of help for any team, so that they can help them with the right hints at the right time.
